About me

Welcome, I’m Emma. I live and work in Glasgow.

I have a strong curiosity in eastern wisdom and western science and feel both can
be combined to enhance overall holistic health and well-being.

I am an Ayurvedic Yoga Massage Practitioner and offer this every Wednesday at The Healing Body which is located at The Urban Office, 101 Portman Street, Kinning Park, Glasgow. Bookings can be taken via this website or through The Healing Body website, please click the link.

I have been a nurse for 12 years and recently qualified as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner where I work in the Emergency Department.

I have been a yoga teacher for 4 years and have been continuously learning, practising and sharing since. I am trained in Alignment and Therapeutic Yoga, Vinyasa, Yin, Yoga Nidra, teaching inclusive yoga and trauma sensitive facilitation. I love them all equally in their own special way. Yoga has changed the way I think and live for the better and is a huge part of my being.

I value inclusivity, equality and encouraging people to have agency of their own bodies and choices. My intention is for these values to be at the core of my work; nursing, yoga facilitation and massage.

I feel most aligned when I am outside; hill walking, parks, beaches and forming deep connections with nature and other humans. I prioritise movement, eating to feel nourished and good quality rest. Engaging in regular holistic therapies has recently become a non-negotiable to support my own healing and well-being journey – the benefits are tremendous!

I aim to support others to feel their best aligned self; physically, emotionally, energetically and spiritually through yoga and Ayurvedic Yoga Massage.

About Me

What is Ayurvedic Yoga Massage?

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage (AYM) was developed by Kusum Modak in Pune, India. It is a therapeutic method of bodywork, influenced by Ayurveda (Indian medicine) and Iyengar Yoga. It combines techniques of deep tissue oil massage along with yoga stretches, breath awareness, mobilisations and tractions for a full body, therapeutic experience.

It is floor-based, delivered on a futon where you will be draped in lungi (traditional Indian wrap material). Oil is mixed with a ground powder of Calamus root, a wetland plant used in Ayurveda, to create an exfoliating feeling on the skin. The powder enhances the benefits of the massage by warming up the tissues, improving circulation and increasing the intensity. Deeper pressures can be achieved using body weight, forearms, elbows and feet. Intentions and boundaries will be set during the consultation.

The massage can be tailored to your needs on the day - soft and nurturing, deep pressure or passive stretches on specific areas or a focus on intentional breathing to calm your nervous system. Sometimes we don't know what we need or why we have been called to book a massage - I can work with that too! Visit AYM UK (my training school) for more information.

Book here or at The Healing Body.

Please contact me directly for further information or any questions. If under certain circumstances you cannot make it to the clinic, I may be able to offer AYM at your home. This will be dependant on location, pre-appointment consultation and assessed on a case-by-case basis.
